"After reading this book, I am proud to say that I was born in the same town as Wilfred, a man who was skillful enough to have a successful career in professional football, but also knew where his duty lay when called upon."

Graham Taylor OBE, former England National Football Team Manager

The Third Way

BBC - History - Programmes - Blood of the Vikings

There is a third method for the Bartrop surname to arrive in Britain.  During an episode of  the BBC TV programme 'Blood of the Vikings',  in which Julian Richards investigated Viking Britain, from the first raids to their settlement of the British Isles and traced their legacy through a genetics survey, another way was suggested.  Danish Vikings swept down from their homelands and arrived in France.  The king at the time bought peace by giving the Danes land,  the land which was to become Normandy.  Hence, when the Normans arrived in Britain they were of Danish descent and therefore both theories could be true. .
