"After
reading this book, I am proud to say that I was born in the same
town as Wilfred, a man who was skillful enough to have a successful
career in professional football, but also knew where his duty lay
when called upon."
Graham Taylor OBE, former England National Football
Team Manager

The Lodge

Sandra Hawes writes that her Great
Grandfather, Albert William Lambert, was Head Gardener at
Bartropps. Both he, his wife Ruth, and their family were
allowed to live in the lodge, even after Albert's retirement and to his
eventual death - something quite unusual in those days. Albert
& Ruth celebrated their diamond wedding there, the occasion was even
mentioned in the local press. (see below)

Ruth Lambert's Diamond Wedding
A further example of the Pildich
family's generosity came when they offered to sell the lodge to Sandra's
parents when they got married, for the princely sum of £2000 - regrettably
they had to decline the offer.
